Building connection

with compassion

Every year, thousands of students and athletes leave home for an immersive educational experience.

This book is for the homestay families who open their hearts and homes to these young people.

The Heart of Homestay

In this book, I take you on the journey of hosting, providing dozens of examples of families who embrace their work as hosts. From first impressions and settling in, to navigating cultural differences with compassion, to communicating through language barriers, I show you how to enhance your experience. When you embark on this journey of intercultural exchange, my book will help you find a way to nurture the seed of discovery between you and your students, and watch it grow into something beautiful.

What People are Saying

Services

I’m a freelance writer and editor with an MFA from the University of King’s College (Dalhousie). I am available for articles and book reviews, with a special interest in creative nonfiction and science writing. I also offer manuscript review services, book coaching, and structural editing.

With the right help and guidance, you can nurture change that generates positive, long-lasting results. I’m available for book coaching, life purpose and career coaching, and leadership coaching. As an expert in homestay program management, I also offer coaching, training, and consulting for educators and host families.

For over twenty years, I have lead individuals and teams through personal and professional development. I offer affordable, bespoke strategic planning workshops for small businesses and entrepreneurs, with a focus on practical execution. I also conduct customized team building workshops and training webinars.

Along with my colleague Morag Wehrle, I facilitate intimate writing retreats for women and non-binary writers of nonfiction who are seeking growth in their craft, expansion of their creativity, and clarity about the publishing journey. Retreats are held in Muskoka, Ontario - about 2.5 hours north of Toronto.

Writer & Editor | Coach | Speaker

I’m a writer. I love how language brings ideas to life, energizes people, makes vivid that which likes to hide in the shadows. Words have the power to evoke emotion and action and change.

I’m a coach & consultant. My natural curiousity and optimism combine to make me a great listener who believes in what’s possible. My approach is both intuitive and rational.

I’m a speaker& facilitator. I love creating shared understanding, building compassion and fostering dialogue – all of which support deeper connections.

I’m an educator. The throughline in my work–the thread that connects all that I do–is learning, and in turn, teaching others. I collect knowledge; I seek; I explore. I take complex ideas and translate them for others.

My mission is to guide people in order to expand possibilities, nurture growth, be a comforting influence, and build peace, harmony, and connection.
